This project helps to speed up the industry's transition to climate-neutral factories by thinking green when designing and purchasing production equipment, media and buildings. The investment portfolio in Swedish industry is very large in the coming years; in the north, investments of SEK 1,000 billion are planned, and the manufacturing industry is investing around SEK 33 billion per year. New innovative approaches are needed to avoid making unsustainable technological solutions, designed according to the linear take-make-waste model, permanent. The design phase controls subsequent phases and it is costly to change in the production phase. Thinking right from the start extends the lifespan and builds in material and resource efficiency, contributing to the green transition.GREEN DESIGN intends to
- contribute to reduced resource use and CO2 footprint from production
- solutions that extend the life of equipment
- and increase sustainability in operation
- go from CAPEX to OPEX where equipment is leased
- learning from industry examples to the public sector
- business benefits for Swedish machine suppliers who strengthen their international competitiveness through customer-supplier cooperation
Results are disseminated via the consortium and the ecosystem in sustainable production, and the possibility of political influence via the Delegation for Circular Economy.
Project objectives
The GREEN DESIGN project has the potential to achieve:
- Reduced resource usage and CO2 footprint from production
- Solutions that significantly extend the lifetime of equipment through maintenance, reuse and upgrading.
- Increase sustainability in the operational phase through reduced waste, low energy consumption, etc.
- Moving from CAPEX to OPEX where equipment is leased
