Accounting and Control

Accounting and control is about organizations' external reporting, for example financial reporting and sustainability reporting, as well as management and control of resources within the organization. It concerns accounting, auditing, budgeting, and performance measurement, and it delves into the design and implementation of organizational controls and how this affects the behaviour of managers and employees.

Algebra and Analysis with applications

The research group Algebra and Analysis with Applications is a research group within the focus area of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics.

Artificial Intelligence och Intelligent Systems

Foundational and applied research in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for Intelligent Systems for both industry, medical and business applications. The research focuses on methods and techniques enabling learning, reasoning, experience reuse, and experience sharing. We work with both autonomous AI applications as well as decision support systems.

Automated Software language and Software engineering

The ASSO research group focuses on automating the engineering of software languages and software by applying advanced computation and data manipulation techniques.

Biomedical Engineering

The research within the Biomedical Engineering group focuses on reliable non-invasive physiological data acquisition and signal processing. The aim is to find solutions to real problems and the projects are performed in close collaboration with the public sector.

Care, Recovery and Health

The group’s research is directed towards developing and applying scientific knowledge of how different forms of care and nursing can contribute towards human recovery and health.

Certifiable Evidences and Justification Engineering

This group performs research on languages, techniques, metrics, and processes for engineering evidence(s) and justifications for the purpose of certification/selfassessment.

Childhood during Antropocen – Education and sustainability

This interdisciplinary research group Childhood during Antropocen – Education and sustainability has its focus on the child as a cultural, learning and political human being who is intertwined with nature and the atmosphere. The studies investigate how different childhoods appear and are created in relation to dilemmas and challenges of social, cultural, political, ethical, economical and ecological character.

ChiP - Children’s rights to health, protection, promotion and participation

The goal of the research group is to contribute towards and enhance knowledge regarding the right of children, young people, parents and families to equality in health and participation.

Complex Real-Time Embedded Systems

We focus on execution and analysis of real-time systems, with a particular focus on multiprocessor scheduling techniques, synchronization protocols, predictable execution of real-time systems, compositional theory and technology, and similar topics related to predictability of real-time systems.

Co-production research in health and welfare

The goal of this group is to develop research in co-production within the field of health and welfare.

Cyber-Physical Systems Analysis

The research group is focused on analyzing cyber-physical systems, as concurrent and distributed systems where embedded computers and networks monitor and control the physical processes.

Data Communication

Data Communication, a part of the Division of Networked and Embedded Systems.

Dependable Software Engineering

Methods and processes for engineering dependable software systems.

Digitalisation of Future Energy

In Digitalisation researchers work with advanced modelling methods and measurement techniques for energy efficient processes and systems with environmental benefits.

Discrete Mathematics and Modelling of Behaviour and Culture

This research focuses on the mathematical modelling of phenomena in cultural evolution.

Early interventions, early educational paths and special educational needs co-production research (TITUS)

TITUS is a research and development group for teachers in the preschool, school and teacher education of the future.

Ecocritical Forum: Literature Studies

Ecocriticism is an interdisciplinary field of research directed towards analysis primarily of literary fiction, but also other types of texts against the background of the discussion of sustainable development.

Economics

In Economics, research is conducted into energy and environment economics in which the researchers investigate the connection between economic growth, energy consumption and the environmental situation.

Resource efficiency

Resource efficiency includes utilizing bioenergy sources and at the same time enabling recovery of other resources, as for example nutrients and sustainable cities built in an ecologic, economic, and social sustainable way.

Engineering Mathematics

Engineering Mathematics is a research group at MDU which focuses on developing research and research studies in Applied Mathematics. The purpose of this research is to develop existing and future technology.

Excellent Teaching for Literacy (ETL)

ETL is a research group under construction within the area of language, and reading and writing development, with the aim of securing a research-based and scientifically established educational environment for all the University’s teacher education programmes, and also of contributing to scholarly excellence in educational science research.

Formal Modelling and Analysis of Embedded Systems

Focusing on formal modelling, analysis, and verification techniques for real-time embedded systems. In particular, formal syntax and semantics of componentbased and service oriented models with extra-functional properties such as time or resources.

Heterogeneous systems - hardware software co-design

The group aims to boost exploitation of heterogeneous systems in terms of predictability, eﬀective development and eﬃcient software-hardware integration for next-generation intelligent embedded systems.

Innovationsledning

The research group Innovation Management focuses on innovation, creativity and change processes, and the starting point of the group's research is the social dynamics that emerge in and affect the interaction between people in working life.

Industrial Software Engineering

Focusing on engineering of complex software-intensive embedded systems, covering the entire lifecycle and including technologies, methods and processes. Particular emphasis on component- and model-based software engineering for embedded systems.

Information Design

The group of Information Design research focuses on information and communication processes while analysing and interpreting representations in the form of images, spaces and texts in a design context.

Learning and Optimisation

The group aims to explore the synergy between machine learning and optimization to achieve collaborative effects in building highly efficient and smart systems.

Learning, Inclusive education, School transitions – for All (LISA)

LISA is a research group within the research environment of Children and Young People in School and Society [BUSS], with their interest directed towards three areas of research: Learning and Teaching (Swedish and Mathematics), Special Education and Inclusive Teaching, and Educational Transitions.

Marketing and strategy

In Marketing and strategy, value generation, sustainable competitiveness as well as development and renewal in companies and organisations are studied.

Model-Based Engineering of Embedded Systems

Development of methods and tools for model-based engineering of embedded systems. Including: models for architectural and behavioral descriptions of system and requirements for systems, techniques for analyzing and transforming models, and runtime architectures for resource efficient, predictable embedded systems.

M-TERM - Mälardalen University Team of Educational Researchers in Mathematics

The M-TERM research group conducts research in Mathematics Didactics. This group studies and develops, together with teachers and principals, mathematics education in compulsory school and upper secondary school. The purpose of this research is to develop classroom teaching and to contribute understanding of what steers and supports the work of the mathematics teacher.

MIND (Mälardalen INteraction and Didactics) research group

MIND (Mälardalen INteraction and Didactics) research group investigates discursive and interactional practices embedded in teaching and learning activities. Our research aims to enhance the quality of teaching and teacher education by sustaining collaboration between Mälardalen University and its partner schools in the region. The close collaboration is based on conducting research in classrooms and beyond where both teacher candidates and tutors become a part of the research.

Natural Science and Technology Didactics research

In MDU's Natural Science and Technology Didactics research (NT Didactics), researchers, in collaboration with school and higher education, investigate how the use of language and natural science discourse can be developed in teaching.

NOMP-group – New Organisation and Management Practices

In our research we aim at co-creating cross-boundary knowledge about organising processes with the purpose of contributing to responsible organisational, managerial and working life transitions.

Normcritical perspectives in the research into social vulnerability

The group conducts research into different forms of social vulnerability, for example financial vulnerability, violence and extremism.

Person-centred care and communication

The goal of person-centred care is a meaningful life for the patient.

Product and Production Development

The Product and Production Development research group creates knowledge on the renewal and development of products and production systems. The research is based on an integrated development where many stakeholders' and time perspectives are balanced.

Programming Languages

Worst-case execution time analysis, as well as design and analysis of languages for real-time and embedded systems. Focusing on static program analysis for embedded systems, specializing in Worst-Case Execution Time analysis.

Prolonged independent life

The number of elderly and disabled people with major care needs is becoming increasingly larger as the lack of staff in care and nursing is growing more and more. This implies expectations of increased efforts by family caregivers and a rapidly growing market for health and welfare technical devices.

Real-Time Systems Design

Focusing on design methods, architectures, and communication for real-time system, with current emphasis on functional safety, cybersecurity, adaptive real-time systems, and software testing.

Renewable Energy

In Renewable Energy the researchers work with processes and components for transforming biomass to heat, electricity and vehicle fuel, and also the recycling of nutrients and energy from society’s waste flows.

Robotics

The robotics research group is mainly conducting research in the area of autonomous collaborating systems.

Safety-Critical Engineering

Focusing on bridging the theoretical foundations of dependability and industrial software development practices, with an emphasis on the technology and process aspects of complex dependable systems.

Software Testing Laboratory

Testing of embedded software, empirical studies of software testing, test automation and model-based testing.

Stochastic Processes, Statistics and Financial Engineering

The page represents research, educational and other activities of the research group Stochastic Processes, Statistics and Financial Engineering and its part AF (Analytical Finance) Group created in 1999 by the Department of Mathematics and Physics (now at the Division of Applied mathematics at the School of Education, Culture and Communication) at Mälardalen University.

Sustainable lifestyle and health from a public health perspective

The goal of this research is to contribute towards sustainable development with a focus on health and lifestyle from a public health perspective.

Sustainable working life

This research group conducts interdisciplinary research into the management of working life, working conditions and its structure and also its consequences for the organisation and its staff’s health and wellbeing.

The research group for studies in democracy, power and citizenship (DEM)

The research group has broad subject expertise comprising political science, social work, sociology and ecological economics. There is close cooperation with society, thus being able to disseminate new knowledge where it can be of use.

Space and Place in Early Childhood Education and School (SPiECES)

The group Space and Place in Early Childhood Education and School studies the preschool and school from pedagogical and didactical perspectives on site, and environment where social, cultural, symbolic, and physical structures and circumstances consociate.

Value-Driven Innovation and Foresight

The Value-driven Innovation and Foresight group focuses on how innovation is expressed from a value-creating service perspective, using broad inclusion and democratisation through Responsibility Research & Innovation Tools. The group also considers requirements to understand future needs, linking foresight and world analysis with the development of future business models.

Welfare research

This group deals mainly with understanding the complexity of how people perceive their everyday lives in relation to the opportunities and limitations of citizenship.
