About the project
Recent research has shown that reflection and feedback practices in teacher education should be data-led, and audio-visual, digital tools should be incorporated into teacher education programs for effective reflective practices. To this end, this project aims at enhancing teacher development and teachers’ roles in classrooms through a process of digitalization in reflection and feedback practices. We use a digital mobile video-tagging app, VEO (Video Enhanced Observation), which provides a tool that enables online and offline tagging and reviewing of videos. By tagging selected moments in classroom interaction, student-teachers (STs) and mentors are able to review moments in classrooms for reflective purposes.
The data will be collected by integrating the use of VEO into the current VFU 2 and 3 structure for English, Mathematics, and Swedish/Swedish as a second language teacher education. Using the VEO app, faculty members, mentors, and STs will be able to identify, review, and discuss aspects of classroom teaching. Through a qualitative, data-driven analysis of lessons, post-observation and feedback sessions, and interviews as well as focus groups, we will explore the ways a digitally enhanced teacher education framework in practicum can potentially create affordances for teacher development.
