Preparing professionals for social transformation triggered by the use and development of AI applications
The rapid development of AI, especially generative AI in the form of deep learning neural networks and Large Language Models, with broad applications across society, places great demands on higher education institutions.

AI produces text with probabilistic models using “big data”, so the production process of these “knowledge” statements are separated from reasoning and meaning-making. Higher education therefore needs to prepare graduates for what can be and what should not be left to AI: reasoning, meaning-making, ethics, values, and issues of justice. Higher education needs to prepare citizens and professionals to make accurate judgements in relation to both the products of AI and the applicability of AI use, including consequences for society and individuals. Further, a deeper understanding and vocabulary appropriate for describing knowledge in the AI era are areas in need of attention
