Objectives

The purpose of the course is to provide insights into digital technologies for industrial visualization, and their application in various real-world domains in the context of Industry 4.0. The course will provide students an understanding of when industrial visualization using extended reality may be a good solution in the development of production systems.

Learning outcomes

After completion of the course, the student shall be able to:  
1. Describe the use of extended reality (XR) in Industry 4.0 environments 
2. Show understanding for how to develop production processes using extended reality
3. Describe how to design and implement production processes which include industrial visualization using extended reality 

Course content

Applications of extended reality in Industry 4.0 for virtual production. 

Specific requirements

75 credits in mechanical engineering, production engineering, product and process development, computer engineering and/or computer science or equivalent or 40 credits in engineering/technology and at least 2 years' experience in full-time employment in a relevant area within industry. In addition, Swedish course B/Swedish course 3 and English course A/English course 6 are required. For courses given entirely in English exemption is made from the requirement in Swedish course B/Swedish course 3. 

Examination

Project (PRO1), 2 credits, examines learning outcomes 1-3, marks Fail (U) or Pass (G) 

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.

Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
