Objectives
The overall aim of the course is to stimulate students to use design as a tool for innovation based on Human Centered Design. The course will emphasize on theories and methods for design process and design research in co-creation with industry or other organizations. The students will independently or in groups apply and deepen their knowledge within human centered design; and based on a given problem description analyze and independently gather knowledge about the problem area. Students will generate ideas problem solutions and designs.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student shall be able to:
1. take active part in a project work initiated by an external organization
2. show deep understanding of current research and development with focus on tools and processes within human centered design
3. manage design projects with a focus in human centered design, for example as project manager or in solving an advanced design task
4. draw the relevant conclusions and recommendations based on the analysis of the process
5. in a report based on scientific literature describe the design process and argument for the recommendations
Course content
The students will work with problems defined by an external organization. From these problems the students will work with design theories and design methods developed for co-creation between academia and industry. The content of the course is primarily project work structured by the students, but also include workshops, text seminars, lectures and visits at relevant organizations. In the end of the course the students will present a design solution including an artifact, and also an individual report related to the students own contribution in the project and relevant scientific literature.
