Course syllabus - Degree Project in Sustainable Energy Systems

Objectives

The student should be able to apply knowledge and skills acquired in the program to independently plan, implement and conduct a technical investigation. The aim is to deepen the capacity for critical thinking and problem analysis and obtain a subject-related specialization in an area within the energy field. The aim is also to make the student prepared for possible future research.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course the student should be able to
- apply knowledge, theories and models to solve energy technical related problems
- select, analyze and critically evaluate different technical solutions
- independently and critically analyze, interpret and creatively identify, formulate and manage complex issues, even with limited information
- show deep knowledge within energy systems related methodologies
- show deep knowledge within the degree project´s field
- demonstrate the ability to orally and in writing present conclusions and methods
- independently conduct a scientific opposition to others' results in a critical way
- have knowledge about research and development activities within the thesis area

Course content

The course consists primarily of an independent project that will have its main body in the field of energy technology. This includes writing a technical report and an oral presentation of its findings and conclusions. In addition to the independent work the student will conduct an oral opposition on another degree project.

Tuition

Seminars, independent work, supervision, opposition, written and oral presentation of the conducted work.

Specific requirements

At least 45 credits completed courses including 15 credits in energy at advanced level and 7.5 credits in mathematics at advanced level. In addition, English B.

Project (PRO1), 29 credits, marks Pass (G)
Seminar (SEM1), 1 credits, marks Pass (G)

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.

Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
