Syfte

Kursen syftar till att skapa en djupgående förståelse för hur den internationella politiska arenan förändrats, med fokus på hur den världsordning som skapades under efterkrigstiden allt oftare ifrågasätts, utmanas av nya aktörer, och har tappat makt och legitimitet.  

Kursen erbjuder avancerade studier inom områdena demokratisk teori, global rättviseteori, globalisering, och global styrning. Fokus riktas särskilt mot hur nya aktörer - såväl stater som internationella civilsamhällesorganisationer - och nya problem utmanar det rådande internationella systemet. 

Empiriskt fokuserar kursen på skiften i geopolitisk maktbalans och de normer som ska styra den internationella världsordningen. 

Lärandemål

Efter avslutad kurs ska studenten ha:   

Kunskap och förståelse: 

1. omfattande kunskaper om och bred förståelse av hur den internationella världsordningen omvandlas och utmanas. 
2. fördjupad kunskap om centrala begrepp, teorier och forskningsområden kopplade till global styrning, globalisering samt demokrati och rättvisa på global nivå. 

Färdigheter och förmåga: 
3. förmåga att kritiskt analysera begreppen global styrning, demokrati och rättvisa. 
4. förmåga att självständigt kunna formulera vetenskapliga problem, producera akademiska texter av god kvalitet och ta fram relevanta analysverktyg.  

Värderingsförmåga och förhållningssätt:  
5. en fördjupad förmåga att identifiera och problematisera etablerade föreställningar om global styrning, demokrati och rättvisa.

Innehåll

Kursens huvudsakliga teoretiska utgångspunkter utgörs av demokratiteori, global rättviseteori, globalisering, och global styrning, med ett särskilt fokus på hur nya aktörer och nya problem utmanar det rådande internationella systemet. Empiriskt fokuserar kursen på skiften i geopolitisk maktbalans och de normer som ska styra den internationella världsordningen

Undervisning

Kursen är en distansutbildning. Undervisningen sker i form av föreläsningar, seminarier och skriftlig examination. Kursens seminarier är obligatoriska.

Särskild behörighet

Examen på grundnivå om minst 180 högskolepoäng varav minst 90 högskolepoäng i huvudområdet statsvetenskap eller motsvarande. Dessutom krävs Svenska 3 och Engelska 6. I de fall kursen ges på engelska görs undantag från kravet på Svenska 3.

Examination

Inlämningsuppgift (INL1), 5 hp, betyg Underkänd (U), Godkänd (G) eller Väl Godkänd (VG). Avser lärandemål 1-5. 
Seminarium (SEM1) 2,5 hp, betyg Underkänd (U), Godkänd (G). Avser lärandemål 1-3, 5. 

En student som har ett intyg från MDU avseende sin funktionsnedsättning har möjlighet att anmäla önskemål om anpassning vid salstentamina eller annan examinationsform i enlighet med Regler och anvisningar för examination på grundnivå och avancerad nivå vid Mälardalens högskola (2020/1655). Det är examinator som, utifrån det intyg som utfärdats, beslutar om eventuell anpassning och i så fall vilken anpassning som ska gälla.

Misstankar om vilseledande vid examination (fusk) anmäls, enligt högskoleförordningen, till universitetets rektor och prövas av universitetets disciplinnämnd. Om disciplinnämnden anser att en student gjort sig skyldig till en disciplinförseelse fattar nämnden beslut om en disciplinär åtgärd, vilket är varning eller avstängning.
