Syfte
Kursen bygger på och utvidgar kunskaper inom litteraturanalys och litteraturkritik, samt ger ytterligare kunskaper om nordamerikansk 1800- och 1900-talslitteratur. Kursen ger också en introduktion till ekokritik som forskningsområde. Den syftar vidare till att ytterligare träna akademiskt skrivande i en litteraturvetenskaplig kontext.
Lärandemål
Efter avklarad kurs ska studenten kunna:
- definiera och beskriva centrala begrepp inom ekokritik
- läsa, analysera och tolka litterära texter från olika epoker
- läsa och diskutera valda litteraturteoretiska och litteraturkritiska texter
- reflektera över och beskriva ekokritiska forskningsmetoder
- planera och genomföra en mindre ekokritisk undersökning
Innehåll
- nordamerikansk litteratur, både kanoniska verk och moderna texter, samt valda exempel på teoretisk och tillämpad ekokritik
Undervisning
Undervisningen består av seminarier, handledning, hemuppgifter och presentationer. Vissa IKT-inslag. Deltagande i alla schemalagda undervisningsmoment är obligatoriskt.
Kursen kan också ges på distans via webbaserad kursplattform. Även i detta fall kan obligatoriska kursmöten förekomma under terminens gång.
Särskild behörighet
Engelska 1, 30 hp och Engelska 2, 30 hp (minst 22,5 hp vid kursstart) eller motsvarande.
Examination
Inlämningsuppgift. Uppsats (INL1), 2,5 högskolepoäng, betyg Godkänd (G) eller Väl Godkänd (VG)
Inlämningsuppgift. Kursportfolio av fortlöpande muntliga analyser med skriftlig dokumentation (INL2), 5 högskolepoäng, betyg Godkänd (G) eller Väl Godkänd (VG), Inlämningsuppgift. Kursportfolio av fortlöpande muntliga analyser med skriftlig dokumentation.
En student som har ett intyg från MDU avseende sin funktionsnedsättning har möjlighet att anmäla önskemål om anpassning vid salstentamina eller annan examinationsform i enlighet med Regler och anvisningar för examination på grundnivå och avancerad nivå vid Mälardalens högskola (2020/1655). Det är examinator som, utifrån det intyg som utfärdats, beslutar om eventuell anpassning och i så fall vilken anpassning som ska gälla.
Misstankar om vilseledande vid examination (fusk) anmäls, enligt högskoleförordningen, till universitetets rektor och prövas av universitetets disciplinnämnd. Om disciplinnämnden anser att en student gjort sig skyldig till en disciplinförseelse fattar nämnden beslut om en disciplinär åtgärd, vilket är varning eller avstängning.

Kursen kan inte ingå i en examen tillsammans med Engelska 3.
