Kursplan - Marketing and IT

Syfte

The purpose of this course is to let the students develop knowledge about the use of information technology (IT) in marketing situations. The students will develop an understanding for the consequences and significance of the use of computer-based information systems (IS) in companies and organizations. Different perspectives on information systems in a marketing context are discussed based on the course book and scientific articles in seminar forms. Different contemporary phenomena as e.g. e-commerce and e-business are discussed. In this course, the student will develop an understanding of how IT enables marketing actions. The student will also train in how to give oral and verbal presentations.

Lärandemål

After the course the student will be able to
- have knowledge about different computer-based information systems and their utilization
- assess the use of information technology (IT) in a company or an organization
- have knowledge about theory and practice on how information systems are used in a marketing contexts
- understand how technologies can change the marketing landscape
- create a e-marketing strategy
- contribute in a project group when creating group assignments
- demonstrate the ability to understand and analyze scientific books and articles as well as be able to lead seminars and workshops on the topic of marketing and IT
- offer oral and verbal presentations

Innehåll

At the course the student will be training on oral and written presentations. The students will read academic texts, on the topic marketing and IT, and discuss them in seminar forms. The course contains lecturers, literature seminars, student driven seminars, and group projects. These course elements demands active participation from the students. The project is examined through a presentation in front of the class.

Undervisning

Teaching methods are lectures, seminars and group projects (including a work shop).

Särskild behörighet

Företagsekonomi 30 hp, varav minst 22,5 hp ska vara avklarade vid kursstart.

Examination

Projekt i grupp (PRO1), 2 hp, betyg Godkänd (G)
Seminarium (SEM1), 2 hp, betyg Godkänd (G)
Tentamen (TEN1), 3,5 hp, betyg Godkänd (G) eller Väl Godkänd (VG)

En student som har ett intyg från MDU avseende sin funktionsnedsättning har möjlighet att anmäla önskemål om anpassning vid salstentamina eller annan examinationsform i enlighet med Regler och anvisningar för examination på grundnivå och avancerad nivå vid Mälardalens högskola (2020/1655). Det är examinator som, utifrån det intyg som utfärdats, beslutar om eventuell anpassning och i så fall vilken anpassning som ska gälla.

Misstankar om vilseledande vid examination (fusk) anmäls, enligt högskoleförordningen, till universitetets rektor och prövas av universitetets disciplinnämnd. Om disciplinnämnden anser att en student gjort sig skyldig till en disciplinförseelse fattar nämnden beslut om en disciplinär åtgärd, vilket är varning eller avstängning.

Övergångsbestämmelser och övriga föreskrifter

The SEM1 seminars require the students to attend at least three out of four seminars and that they give a presentation during one of these three seminars. The PRO1 requires the students to attend some meetings in computer laboratories and to present a project in front of the class. TEN1 requires the students to attend to take the exam. A basic course in informatics is recommended but it is not a requirement.
