Kursplan - Organization Basics

Syfte

To provide knowledge about

- different companies´ business activities from the perspective of Organizational Theory
- essential concepts within Organizational Theory such as: structure, design, culture, change, the environment and its effects on strategy and structure, technology, organizational life cycle processes, decisions, change processes etc.
- general principles in case writing and how case works in Business Administration can be structured

Lärandemål

To provide ability for

- transforming knowledge into sucessful business transactions by understanding how organizational issues influence the activities of companies and other organizations
- integrating and using basic organizational theories and models in solving organizational problems in companies and other organizations
- taking strategic organizational decisions in companies and other organizations
- analyzing different organizational problems from a case

Innehåll

The course deals with and gives an overview of the composition of the organization. There is particular focus on the problems and strategies for managing the organization internally and externally and through change periods. The course will give practical examples as well as adopting a scientific approach to the study of organizations.

Undervisning

Teaching is given in the form of lectures and tutorials.

Behörighet

Engelska B (områdesbehörighet 4 med förändring). För den som har betyg från Gy11/Vux12 krävs endast grundläggande behörighet.

Examination

Inlämningsuppgift (INL1), 1,5 hp, betyg Godkänt (G) eller Väl Godkänt (VG)
Inlämningsuppgift (INL2), 1,5 hp, betyg Godkänt (G) eller Väl Godkänt (VG)
Inlämningsuppgift (INL3), 1,5 hp, betyg Godkänt (G) eller Väl Godkänt (VG)
Tentamen (TEN2), 3 hp, betyg Godkänt (G) eller Väl Godkänt (VG)

En student som har ett intyg från MDU avseende sin funktionsnedsättning har möjlighet att anmäla önskemål om anpassning vid salstentamina eller annan examinationsform i enlighet med Regler och anvisningar för examination på grundnivå och avancerad nivå vid Mälardalens högskola (2020/1655). Det är examinator som, utifrån det intyg som utfärdats, beslutar om eventuell anpassning och i så fall vilken anpassning som ska gälla.

Misstankar om vilseledande vid examination (fusk) anmäls, enligt högskoleförordningen, till universitetets rektor och prövas av universitetets disciplinnämnd. Om disciplinnämnden anser att en student gjort sig skyldig till en disciplinförseelse fattar nämnden beslut om en disciplinär åtgärd, vilket är varning eller avstängning.

Examinations:
The individual written examination and the group work must both be done in the English language.

Marks:
Swedish and ECTS-marks are given on the result for the whole course. The Swedish marks are Pass with Distinction (Väl godkänd) or Pass (Godkänd) or Fail (Underkänd) and the ECTS-marks are A or B (= Pass with Distinction) or C or D or E (= Pass) or F (= Fail).
