Health and Welfare
Sustainable Upbringing
We work to create a sustainable future for children, adolescents and young adults, as well as their families. Creating good conditions for the upbringing of children and young people is important for their individual well-being, development and life opportunities, which is also significant for the long-term development and success of society.

Our focus in this knowledge environment is on three central areas: Health and well-being, inclusion and participation, and equality (including gender equality) and equity.
This is achieved through interdisciplinary research and education, through internal university-wide collaboration, and collaboration with external partners.
Health and well-being. We aim to improve all dimensions of health for children and young people. By identifying and addressing challenges related to the upbringing conditions of children and young people within the welfare system and legislation as well as through norms, we work to create a safe and supportive environment for good health throughout their upbringing.
Inclusion and participation. All children and young people have the right to be heard and to be involved in decisions that affect their lives. We work to promote inclusion and participation in preschool, school and society at large, striving to ensure that the child's voice is always heard.
Equality and equity. All children should grow up in a society where everyone has equal opportunities, regardless of gender, ethnicity, socio-economic status, ability, sexual orientation or gender identity. By challenging and changing discriminatory norms and structures, we attempt to create a fair, equal, and equitable world.
Our focus areas
Our ambition is to create a sustainable upbringing environment for all children and young people, where they can grow and develop in safe and supportive surroundings. Overall, we base our efforts on Goal 10 of the 2030 Agenda: Reduced Inequality, with further focus on the following three global goals:
- Goal 3: Good health and well-being. We work to ensure that all children and young people have good health, equal opportunities for health, and access to equitable and quality healthcare.
- Goal 4: Quality education. We strive to ensure that all children and young people receive a quality and inclusive education. Preschool and school should be places that promote health, learning and development for all children, regardless of their upbringing conditions and abilities.
- Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong institutions . We work for inclusive and equitable societies where everyone can feel safe and involved. We strive to reduce vulnerability in disadvantaged areas and create physical and psychosocial environments that support children and young people.
We have a close collaboration with Samhällskontraktet’s focus area "All children and young people succeed".
What is a knowledge Environment?
Society faces major challenge, so complex that they can only be understood with knowledge and perspectives from many fields at once.
In a knowledge environment, different academic disciplines gather around a societal challenge and, through research and education in collaboration, contribute to a sustainable future.
