There are several ways to do extra work for MDU. You can work as a student ambassador and be the face of MDU at various fairs and events. You can also support other students with study planning or by taking notes.
Different assignments with us
Work as a student ambassador
As a student ambassador, you will, among other things, be a kind of marketer of the university and our educational programmes, mainly for prospective students but also in other contexts.
The tasks can take different forms. You can work on several of them or specialise in a particular one. Please indicate in your application what you are interested in.
The most common assignments as a student ambassador:
- Stand at various fairs, visits to upper secondary schools and other events and tell about MDU and the educations that are conducted, what it is like to study here and your personal experiences about your choice of study.
- Work as an online ambassador and answer questions in chat.
- Participate in digital activities.
- Work practically with the actual implementation of our fairs and events.
- Host external visits such as research conferences or collaboration partners.
What does it take to become a Student Ambassador?
The different assignments require different personal qualities. To apply, you need to study an ongoing education at MDU (programme) and be Swedish-speaking (fluent in speech and writing). As a person, you must be responsible and energetic.
You decide which times you can work based on your study schedule, but you are expected to be able to work at least once a month, with the exception of summer breaks.
As a student ambassador you are expected to work at least once a month if you are up for physical or digital events, and as as online ambassador on average 1 hour/week and respond to chat messages within 24 hours. You’ll be hourly employed and you report your hours in Primula.
Location: Eskilstuna and Västerås (you are expected to be able to work in both locations)
Driving licence: desirable, but not required
Salary: hourly wage 120 SEK/hour. You need to have a Swedish personal ID number or a coordination number.
Work as a mentor
As a student, you can take a job as a mentor to another student at the University. Being a mentor means that you help the student to structure and plan their studies and you share your knowledge and experience of study technique and motivation.
Job description
Being a mentor means that you help another student at the university with study planning and structure. You share your knowledge and experience about study techniques and motivation, so it's not about being an extra teacher or proofreader.
The student you meet may, for example, need support in sorting and prioritising tasks and creating schedules. As a mentor, you meet the student once a week for about 1 hour.
To give you the best conditions for the work, you will receive a mentor training programme and continuous support from the university's coordinator of targeted pedagogical support.
You choose whether you want to mentor one or more students. However, all meetings take place individually.
It may be possible to continue the extra job even after you have finished your studies, so apply for the position even if you are in the final phase of your studies.
Qualifications
- You should be a student at MDU and be at an advanced stage of your studies.
- You are structured, responsive and easy to communicate.
- You have some experience of working with people with disabilities such as ADHD, autism spectrum conditions, dyslexia or mental illness,
either in your private life, education or through work experience. - Experience of working with people with visual impairment is an advantage.
Decisive importance is attached to personal suitability.
Your contribution is important
The student you meet has applied for mentoring and considers this type of support relevant and meaningful. That's why your contribution as a mentor is so important!
Work as a note-taking support
Would you like to share your notes from lectures? Helping others who are studying can be a meaningful and instructive extra job. For more information on note-taking support, contact one of the pedagogical support coordinators.
