The MDU card
The MDU card is often used as a student. Among other things, it gives you access to the premises and a ticket for the MDU bus. The card is personal and it must clearly show that it is you in the photo for it to be valid.
The MDU card is free of charge when you order it for the first time and then costs SEK 100 if it needs to be replaced. The card has the following uses:
- access to the Eskilstuna and Västerås campuses (access card to entrances, public areas and the university library during the times when the campus is closed to the public, and to computer labs and group rooms. Also gives access to programme-specific premises where applicable)
- travel passes for travel on the MDU bus between Eskilstuna and Västerås.
- possibility to use as a library card at the University Library
- printing, copying and scanning.
You do not need to order an MDU card if:
- You will not be on campus in Eskilstuna or Västerås during your studies.
- You do not need to travel on the MDU bus between Eskilstuna and Västerås.
- You are studying on a contract programme. In that case, you should order a card that serves as an access card and library card via the teacher or secretary at your host academy.

After the order
Once your MDU card has been produced, you will receive an email at your student email address with information about the estimated delivery date. You will not receive any notification when it has been delivered, so you are responsible for collecting it yourself. Bring a valid ID and pick up your MDU card at your chosen campus; digital ID is not accepted.
Please note If the photo on your new MDU card does not meet the criteria, the card will not be issued. You will then need to place a new order with an approved photo.
Eligibility of the MDU card
When registering for a course or programme, the eligibility/access for the MDU card is determined. Changes in eligibility are made by the Academies. Upon completion of studies, the MDU card ceases to be valid for passage two weeks into the next semester.
Rules for the MDU card
The following rules apply to you with an MDU card:
- The MDU card is personal and must not be lent to anyone else.
Do not give your card number and PIN to anyone else - Do not let unauthorised persons in when the University is closed to the public.
- You must be able to show your MDU card together with a valid ID card when requested by staff or security.
If you break the rules, your card may be temporarily blocked pending further investigation.

If you have problems using your card, you should contact Studenttorget.
Loss of your MDU card
