FOFOS Research School

FOFOS, the Research School for the Future Public Sector, is a national research school where doctoral students in various subjects at different universities conduct research in close collaboration with public organizations. The aim is to develop new action-oriented knowledge for the transformation of the public sector.

FOFOS Research School

National knowledge hub

FOFOS is a transdisciplinary, co-creative, and innovative research school that functions as a national knowledge hub for the development of new action-oriented knowledge for the transformation of the public sector.

The knowledge arises from the meeting and interaction between different actors: national and international researchers from different scientific fields and with different methodological knowledge bases, public stakeholders with practice-based and possibly also tacit knowledge, and network partners with specific practical and procedural knowledge.

Part of SustainGov

FOFOS is part of SustainGov, one of Sweden's five Impact Innovation Programs. The initiative is funded by the Swedish Energy Agency, Formas, and Vinnova.

SustainGov's mission is to achieve a reformed public sector by 2035 that holistically promotes and facilitates health and well-being for all residents regardless of geography and socioeconomic status, and ensures society's transition to sustainability within the planet's limits.

Parties in FOFOS

FOFOS is led by MDU, hosted by the Center for Welfare Change.

Stockholm University, SCORE

In addition to the universities, a large number of so-called needs owners (public organizations with identified research and development needs) and network partners (organizations with specific expertise in innovation, change management, sustainability issues, etc.) also participate.
