Water4Resilience

Water4Resilience is a collaborative project that brings together research, technology, and real-world applications to advance circular water and nutrient reuse. It demonstrates and evaluates integrated solutions for water reclamation and local food production while also addressing environmental impacts, economic feasibility, and societal, policy, and regulatory conditions for wider implementation.

About the project

Water4Resilience demonstrates how treated wastewater can be safely reused to support urban food production and green infrastructure. The project integrates water treatment, nutrient recovery, digital monitoring, and hydroponic farming into real-world environments such as wastewater treatment plants, schools, and commercial buildings. These demonstration sites provide practical settings where technologies are tested and refined together with users and stakeholders. By recovering water and nutrients for local reuse, the project helps reduce freshwater consumption, limit nutrient pollution, support more sustainable food production, and strengthen resilience to water-related challenges. By turning wastewater into a valuable resource, Water4Resilience shows how innovative circular solutions can help create greener, more sustainable cities.

Primary purpose

Water4Resilience aims to increase system readiness for circular water and nutrient reuse by implementing and validating integrated water reclamation, resource recovery, and monitoring solutions in real-world environments. The project will demonstrate how reclaimed water can support local food production, strengthen resilience to climate-related water challenges, reduce freshwater consumption, and accelerate the transition towards sustainable and circular water management systems.
