This pre-study investigates how urban outdoor environments can be shared and used for a wider range of activities – including commerce, desktop and knowledge work, education, and health and care services. The goal is to explore visions of socially sustainable city centers that invite more people to encounter, act/interact, and flourish.
During twelve months, the project team collaborates with a broad range of participants to develop initial future scenarios and pictures showing how public spaces in cities could be used more extensively than today. Through digital and collaborative workshops, we jointly explore ideas such as increased outdoor commerce, working and studying outside, and providing health and care services in public urban settings.
Project objective
The study aims to investigate and formulate assumptions about how urban outdoor environments can be more extensively shared and used for activities such as commerce, work, education, and care services. Through a visionary approach, the study seeks to contribute knowledge about future possibilities for the urban public realm as part of socially sustainable urban development in Sörmland.
