Description of the project

The model will include the whole chain from feedstock availability to customer energy use, as well as integration with transportation fuel production and interaction with regional wind, solar and hydro power.

The regional energy systems in Västmanland and Södermanland will be used as case studies for the model. Previously used system models based on mixed integer linear programming will be further developed and data from the real heat and power plants in Västerås and Eskilstuna will be used in the study.

The project will be done in close co-operation between Mälardalen University, Mälarenergi, and Eskilstuna Energi & Miljö. From the case studies, knowledge on the importance and influence of different parameters on production costs and greenhouse gas emissions can be gained, usable also for other systems.
