Using a participatory action research approach, we will work with local youths and community organizations to study cultural citizenship, social identity formation, and civic participation in a multilingual setting.
Our team of experts from different fields will use creative techniques such as art-based inquiry and Co design workshops to capture the rich experiences of community members.
The goal of this project is to create a new theoretical framework for understanding and fostering new connections in multilingual environments. Our findings will guide Will guide policies and actions providing practical strategies for stakeholders to utilize diversity in building more inclusive and lively communities.
The project contributes to academic discussions on community groups in diverse environments and also offers practical resources for community growth potentially changing how we approach social inclusion and civil involvement in increasingly varied city regions.
Finally, this research hopes to contribute to more inclusive and vibrant community networks with knowledge that can be applied to similar contexts in Sweden and elsewhere.
Method of data collection will be varied and tailored to the PAR where ethnographic fieldwork will play a significant role where activities will include participatory observations at Konstlek Råby events and activities. specifically, researchers will participate in and observe Konstlek's daily activities to collect data on how the activities affect the participants and the environment.
Additionally, qualitative interviews with key people in the organization and participants, as well as focus groups with young people to gain a deeper understanding of their experiences and needs. Considering Konstlek Råby’s emphasis on creative expression, we will incorporate various arts-based research methods such as mural-making, community theater, or digital storytelling through co-creation activities.
Project objectives
The project aims to explore the potential of innovative synergies in the interactions between civil society and younger individuals. More specifically, the research will focus on the work of Konstlek Råby and their role in promoting multilingual engagement, digital and social inclusion and regeneration of civic participation. As a suburban area, innovative synergies will enable communities like Råby to develop creative solutions to promote collaborations and co-creations across cultural and community barriers.
The research will not only bridge gap but also aims to generate insights into how the social identity of young individuals can be strengthened through enhanced communication flexibility, facilitation of social capital, fostering learning to provide more creative, resilient and innovative civil society across Västerås, Sweden and beyond.
