The project aims to contribute scientific knowledge about how competence-enhancing initiatives for preschool teachers, related to music education, can support the preschool setting . Additionally, the project enables all preschool staff at a participating preschool to develop in-depth subject knowledge and enhanced didactic action competence related to music education.
The professional development component spans three semesters and includes 12 music sessions in which two preschool teachers from a preschool, along with the child group they are responsible for, participate. It also includes three workshops where all preschool staff at the participating preschool take part. The research component involves data collection through partially filmed observations of three music sessions, followed by interviews with the participating preschool teachers, as well as focus group interviews with all preschool staff during the workshops, once per semester over three semesters.
The project is participant-based, meaning that all involved are given the opportunity to influence the process throughout the project. To theoretically understand and describe the results of the project, the concepts of “the reflective practitioner” and “community of practice” will be used.
Project objective
The project enables the generation of scientific knowledge in an innovative way about how preschool teachers can develop the competence to teach children in and through music. Expanding the professional development component with workshops for all preschool staff deepens the scientific understanding and also creates opportunities for all staff to develop subject knowledge and didactic action competence related to music education.
