iREST – Integrating renewable energies and storage technologies into residential, office and industry buildings: towards near zero energy targets

MDH is leading a three-years research project, working together with real-estate and utility companies to study how buildings with PV and energy storage can be used in anoptimal way to decrease, for example, the top load.

The background for the project is the rapid development in batteries and PVs, leading to that more and more building owner are installing PVs connected to batteries and/ or accumulator tanks.

MDH has developed a modeling tool, Optice, which is used to understand how different building types can make use of renewable energy and batteries. By expanding the validated building models the energy dynamics of the whole electicity and district heating grid can be described and optimised.
