There is currently no satisfactory system solution for electrical energy distribution that supplies a fleet of work machines that have 1) a high degree of utilization and 2) can handle high loads, i.e. handle a large number of tons and with a larger machine size, more than 20 tons.
For contracts completed in 2030 or later, the Swedish Transport Administration has the goal that 100% of the energy use for work machines will come from renewable electricity or sustainable biofuels.
To meet this, the project wants to develop and mature the concept of machines with an integrated battery replacement system, where the battery replacement units are common to several different types of machines.
The project takes a holistic approach to the energy system at, and to, the workplace. The focus will also be on circularity and optimized resource utilization, through new business models and adaptation of regulations and policies, all important for the ability to change.
Project objectives
The project will develop and mature the concept of machines with an integrated battery replacement system, where the battery replacement units are common to several different machine types.
Activities
The project will:
- Conduct a workplace analysis to map conditions and requirements
- Map the conditions regarding the electricity grid
- Develop the battery replacement concept and prepare machines
- Develop peripheral systems, including peripheral services
- Investigate and present proposals for relevant business models, investigate relevant regulations and laws and take a holistic approach from a sustainability perspective
- Perform system tests for battery-electric construction machines in a road construction project.
