Health and Welfare
EBITech
EBITech aims to advance the evidence-based implementation of digital technologies in health and welfare systems by developing research-driven methods, frameworks, and models that ensure effectiveness, equity, and sustainability. Through interdisciplinary research and education grounded in real-world evidence (RWE) and global collaboration, our goal is to enhance usability, promote equitable and sustainable solutions, inform policy development, guide reimbursement processes and foster innovations.

Digital technologies are pivotal in the evolution of health and welfare systems across the globe. Spanning innovations such as artificial intelligence (AI), telemedicine, smart sensors, digital platforms, and welfare technologies, these tools hold transformative potential for public health, healthcare, and social welfare sectors. From health promotion and prevention to precision health/ medicine, advanced treatments, and rehabilitation, digital solutions are poised to enhance accessibility, efficiency, and the quality of healthcare services.
However, despite this immense potential, many health organizations struggle with effectively implementing and leveraging digital technologies in an evidence-based manner. A lack of research-backed models, frameworks, and methodologies to ensure these technologies' effectiveness and value, combined with challenges in equitable access and usability, hampers their full impact and ability to drive future innovation.
The EBITech research program (Evidence-based Implementation of Digital Technologies in Health and Welfare Systems) was established to address these challenges.
EBITech is a unique research program which develops research-based methods, frameworks, and models that facilitate the evidence-based adoption of digital technologies within health and welfare systems. The program emphasizes real-world evidence (RWE) to validate the effectiveness and value of these technologies while influencing policy development and strategic decision-making processes. Focusing on usability, equity, and sustainability, EBITech conducts interdisciplinary research and education in collaboration with both national and international partners.
EBITech´s mission is to ensure equitable access to digital technologies that improve health outcomes, enhance the wellbeing of healthcare professionals, streamline processes within health and welfare systems, and bridge the global divide between the Global North and South.
By fostering synergies between academia, industry, the public sector, civil society, and citizens, EBITech aims to maximize the societal benefits of digital solutions, minimize resource wastage, and promote equity and sustainable development.
The EBITech program includes several research projects, educational initiatives, and activities in collaboration with both national and international partners.
The EBITech research program was founded and is led by Prof. Sarah Wamala Andersson, leveraging her extensive expertise in research, practice, and policy development within health and welfare systems on both national and global scales.
Activities
The EBITech research program includes several research projects, educational initiatives, and activities in collaboration with both national and international partners.
Example of research projects:
• Evidence as a criterion in public procurement and implementation of digital technologies
• Implementation of digital technologies in health and welfare systems- does evidence matter?
• AI solutions for health and welfare from perspectives of social determinants of health and ethical standards.
• Digital health literacy and active healthy living.
• Digital health literacy and the health care workforce.
• Sustainable buildings and future health needs
•Accelerating digital transformation in African health systems.
• Women and girls in health tech.
• Drawing The Future – young children´s future occupational aspirations and relations with STEM.
• Digital transformation and implications on existential health.
• And much more..
Ongoing research projects
Children and young people often have sophisticated ideas about the future but they also have limited knowledge about the labor market and the wide range of career opportunities available. Research also shows that socioeconomic background plays a significant role in shaping their educational and career choices.
