Andrea wishes to create a more sustainable society

– In order for us to continue to live on this planet and breathe fresh air, we need to create a more sustainable society. I want to be involved in developing this, says Andrea Miljanovic, who moved from Skinnskatteberg to study the Master of Science in Engineering in Sustainable Energy Systems.

It became clear to Andrea that she wanted to work with something that could have positive effects on the environment and climate, in combination with a technical profession, already during upper-secondary school.

– The energy sector is timely because there are ever increasing demands on energy efficient solutions. The reason why I chose the Master of Science in Engineering can be attributed to my teachers at upper secondary school. They really encouraged and inspired me. I want to make a positive difference to the environment, which I hope I will be able to do after this education, she says.

Up until now, Andrea has gained basic knowledge of energy engineering and technology and will soon acquire specialised knowledge in energy efficiency and technology for sustainable energy production.

– The education is incredibly challenging and I learn something new every day. It's important to remember that you shouldn't opt out of a programme just because you're afraid of failure or feel like you don’t know enough in a specific area. That's exactly what you're here for — to learn. Some subjects can be a little tougher than others, but it can be done, if you make an effort. With willpower and drive, you can get far, she confirms.

Enjoys student life

She enjoys life as a student and is positive that the teaching is conducted in collaboration with the private sector, for example in the form of lectures with external speakers and study visits on site. She also highlights the benefits from the personal contact you can get with many of the teachers.

– There is always help to be had if you ask for it, which is comforting.

In the future, Andrea wants to work with something she thinks is fun and developing, in a role that contributes to a more sustainable society.

– What's so cool about energy is that it's all around us, albeit in many different forms. It's just a matter of using it properly and exploring how we can use and develop today's technology in the smartest and most efficient way.
