About programme syllabus

The programme syllabus applies to the entire education period, starting with the academic year and the semester you started your education. The programme syllabus contains goals for the programme, contents and arrangement, but also requirements for special qualifications, etc.

Outcomes

The objective of the master programme in business administration is to educate economic experts who’ll be attractive on tomorrow’s labour market in the private as well as the public sector. The programme is to offer opportunities for in-depth studies of different areas within business administration. The courses and educational methods within the programme are also intended to prepare students for research studies.

Knowledge and Understanding

Upon completion of the programme, students are expected to be able to demonstrate:

  • their knowledge and understanding of business administration and specialized knowledge of certain subareas within the field;
  • their insight into current research and development work regarding business administration;
  • enhanced methodological knowledge concerning their chosen area of specialization within business administration.

Aptitudes and Accomplishments

Upon completion of the programme, students are expected to be able to:

  • demonstrate their ability to integrate knowledge, as well as to analyze, assess and deal with complex economic phenomena, problems and situations, even if information is limited;
  • demonstrate their ability to independently identify and formulate economic problems and to plan and carry out qualified tasks with adequate methods and within given time frames;
  • demonstrate their ability to present to, and discuss with, different target groups their insights as well as the underlying knowledge and arguments, in a clear manner in both speech and writing, as well as in national and international contexts, in order to contribute to national as well as international cooperation between academia, private businesses and the public sector;
  • demonstrate the skills necessary for participating in research and development work or for working in other specialized contexts;
  • demonstrate their ability to contribute to multidisciplinary collaboration;
  • understand, and take a stand on, alternative paths of action from a sustainability perspective;
  • adopt an ethical and environmentally conscious attitude to their professional activities.

Ability to Evaluate and Assess

Upon completion of the programme, students are expected to be able to demonstrate:

  • their ability to make assessments, within their main field of study, with respect to pertinent scientific, social and ethical aspects, and of their awareness of  the ethical aspects of research and development;
  • their awareness of the possibilities and limitations of science, its role in society, and people’s responsibility for how it is applied;
  • their knowledge and awareness of different perspectives, cultures and traditions;
  • their ability to identify their need for additional knowledge, and to develop their competence on a continuous basis.

Language of instruction

The language of instruction depends on the courses chosen within the programme. Courses being taught in either Swedish or English are on offer.

Contents

The programme comprises a number of second-cycle (advanced-level) elective courses in business administration. You can choose to specialize in marketing, management, or financial control. The programme will be concluded with an independent project in business administration.

Choices within the program

There is a choice of courses in both semesters. Students choose in accordance with their interests/chosen specialization. Depending on the number of applicants for individual courses, courses may be cancelled. Alternative choices must thus be indicated.

University degree

The programme curriculum has been designed so that students can fulfil the requirements for the following degree:

  • Master of Science (60 credits) in Business Administration.

If a programme features elective or optional components, or students choose not to complete a certain course, the choices made can affect their possibilities of fulfilling the degree requirements. Remarks

For every course offered at the University, the corresponding syllabus specifies, among other things, how the students’ performance is to be assessed in terms of forms of examination and achievable grades. The examination of a course is outlined in the syllabus and to be clarified and complemented with written information at the start of the course.
