Specific requirements

Passed entrance exams required. A TOEFL test result, minimum score 575 with a TWE score of at least 4.5 (PBT) or 90 with a TWE score of at least 20 (iBT) or an IELTS test result with an overall band score of minimum 6.5 and no band score below 5.5 or equivalent is required.

About programme syllabus

The programme syllabus applies to the entire education period, starting with the academic year and the semester you started your education. The programme syllabus contains goals for the programme, contents and arrangement, but also requirements for special qualifications, etc.

Outcomes

The aim of the programme is to provide the student with the knowledge and proficiency required for qualified professional practice in chamber music. After completeing the studies, the student will possess the necessary skills to independently and professionally participate in artistic activities related to chamber music in different contexts and at different levels.

The goals set out below are based on the Higher Education Ordinance 1993:100.

Knowledge and Understanding

For a Degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts the student shall:

  • demonstrate knowledge and understanding in the principal field (main field of study) of chamber music, including knowledge of the practical and theoretical foundation of the field, knowledge and experience of method and processes in the field as well as specialised study within in the field.

Aptitudes and Accomplishments

For a Degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts the student shall:

  • demonstrate the ability to describe, analyse and interpret design, techniques and content as well as to reflect critically on his or her artistic approach and that of others in the main field of study of chamber music,
  • demonstrate the ability in the main field of study of chamber music to create, realise and express his or her own ideas, identify, formulate and solve artistic and creative problems autonomously and undertake artistic tasks within predetermined time frames,
  • demonstrate the ability to present and discuss his or her works and artistic issues in speech, writing or in other ways and in dialogue with different audiences, and
  • demonstrate the competence and knowledge required to work autonomously in a professional capacity.

Ability to Evaluate and Assess

For a Degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts the student shall:

  • demonstrate the ability to make assessments in the main field study of chamber music informed by relevant artistic, social and ethical issues,
  • demonstrate insight into the role of art in society, and
  • demonstrate the ability to identify the need for further knowledge and ongoing learning.

Language of instruction

The teaching languages of the degree programme are Swedish and English as both Swedish and English-speaking students study together. Depending on the composition of the student group, the language of instruction varies between the different courses.

Contents

The Chamber-Music programme comprises 180 higher education credits and a total of three years of full-time studies at Bachelor's level.

Year 1 introduces and establishes knowledge in the various courses of the programme and will lay a foundation for the students's musical, instumental/vocal technique and chamber music knowledge and proficiency, as well as providing basic knowledge and understanding of the theory and history of Western music.

Year 2 consolidates the student's knowledge and proficiency that is rquired in order to work as a chamber music musician/musician and will deepen the student's instrumental/vocal technique and chamber music skills while also developing the student's artistic formation. The student will also further develop their knowledge and understanding of music theory and music history. The student will also receive tools to carry out artistic course components and concert assignments within given timeframes.

Year 3 summarises the education and deepens the student's knowledge, proficiency, and abilities, as well as focusing on their judgement and approach ahead of their future profession as a chamber music musician/musician.  Year 3 will also further develop and deepen the student's instrumental/vocal technique and knowledge and proficiency of chamber music, deepen the student's individual artistic expression, and further deepen and develop the student's knowledge, understanding and analytical proficiency in music theory and music history. The student will also be given tools to critically reflect on their own and others' artistic approach. During the last semester, the student will carry out their degree project in the form of a public concert.

Choices within the program

For students admitted to the Chamber Music programme, compulsory studies apply according to the programme syllabus and the programme timetable. To be admitted to courses within programmes, the student must meet the specific entry requirements. The specific entry requirements are set out in the respective course syllabus.
