About programme syllabus

The programme syllabus applies to the entire education period, starting with the academic year and the semester you started your education. The programme syllabus contains goals for the programme, contents and arrangement, but also requirements for special qualifications, etc.


After completion, students of the IBM programme should demonstrate knowledge, competence and profound understanding of international business management needed to pursuit a career in business management.

The International Business Management programme aims to educate business managers who can meet the demands of tomorrow’s international business market, in the private as well as the public sector. Since Business Administration graduates are employed within a range of different areas, the goal is that the programme provides specialised knowledge regarding international aspects within the field of Business Administration with a focus on management issues. The programme will also provide a solid basis regarding its business-related subjects such as Statistics, Commercial Law and Economics. The courses and the pedagogical approach within the programme will prepare the students for further advanced studies and lifelong learning.

Knowledge and Understanding

On completion of studies on the programme the student shall:

  • demonstrate knowledge and understanding within the main field of study, including knowledge of the disciplinary foundation in the field, knowledge of applicable methods in the field, specialised knowledge some part of the field, along with orientation in current research issues.

Aptitudes and Accomplishments

On completion of studies in the programme the student shall:

  • demonstrate the ability to search, amass and critically interpret relevant information in an issue, and also to critically discuss phenomena, problems and situations,
  • demonstrate the ability to independently identify, formulate and solve problems, and also to carry out assignments within given timeframes,
  • demonstrate the ability, orally and in writing, to account for and discuss information, problems and conclusions in dialogue with different groups, and
  • demonstrate such skills as are required to work independently within the field.

Ability to Evaluate and Assess

On completion of studies in the programme the student shall:

  • demonstrate the ability to make assessments within the field, taking into account relevant scientific, social and ethical aspects,
  • demonstrate insight into the role of knowledge in society and the responsibility of human beings for how it is used, and
  • demonstrate the ability to identify his/her need of further knowledge and be able to develop his/her competence.

Language of instruction

The language of instruction is English, which means that all teaching is done in English, and that all course literature is in English.


International Business Management is a three-year Social Science programme in the field of Business Administration. The programme includes Business Administration of at least 90 credits, Economics of 22.5 credits, Commercial Law of 15 credits and Statistics of 7.5 credits. During the studies, the student will also be given the possibility to apply knowledge and skills.

The programme begins with a foundation block of two years, which gives good basic knowledge within the field of Business Administration in the broad sense. The first semester includes basic courses in Business Administration. The courses will give the students basic knowledge in Business Administration thinking and will reflect different aspects of this. The second semester's continuation courses in Business Administration will give the students the opportunity to deepen and make use of their knowledge concerning international aspects within the field of Statistics, Business Administration and Commercial Law.
Year two consists of studies within the field of Economics, Business Analysis and in-depth studies in Management with an international perspective, as well as studies in Research methods and Academic writing.
During the third year, the student is strongly recommended, during one semester, to study abroad at any of the partner institutions of the university. The courses during year three give the student the possibility to further deepen their knowledge within the field of International Business Administration. The focused studies should practice the students' ability to understand and analyse business situations from an international perspective. The teaching on the study programme is designed so that the students may put into practice the theoretical knowledge acquired. This is done by means of various assignments and examinations, in contact with industry and the public sector. Activities, assignments and examinations during the study period, are based on independent work. In most courses, activities are included where students cooperate in groups with other students. There are several different forms of examination, both written individual examinations as well as written and oral presentations of group assignments.

Choices within the program

The student’s choices can be limited by the eligibility requirements pertaining to a course. Choices within the programme occur mainly during year 3. Note that the choice of courses can affect the possibilities of fulfilling the degree requirements. Depending on the number of applicants for the individual courses, some courses may be cancelled. Thus, as a safeguard, alternative choices must be made.

University degree

The programme syllabus is so designed that the studies will lead towards fulfilment of the requirements for the following degree:

  • Degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration 
If the programme contains elective or optional components, or if the student chooses not to complete a certain course, the choices made can affect the possibility of fulfilling the degree requirements. For every course at the University, the forms of how the students' performances are to be assessed, such as types of examination for course components and grades, are stated in the course syllabus. Examination for a course is summarily described in the course syllabus, which is clarified and supplemented by written information at the start of the course. The University has laid down rules and regulations for examination, and these are available via the University's website.
