Insurance for exchange students

As an exchange student at MDU you are insured during your study period at the university by the insurance named Student IN. It is issued by the Swedish Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency (Kammarkollegiet).

Reception services

As a service to you the University organises reception service on Monday and Tuesday 25 and 26 August, between 16-18. In the main entrance of Campus Västerås you will be able to pick up your key from representatives from Bostad Västerås, meet University staff and current students. All there to welcome you to Sweden and MDU. You will also have the option to get transportation to your accommodation.

Please note that there is no specific programme for the reception services. Arrival at other dates are of course possible, but please note that arriving outside the reception service times means that you are expected to pick up your keys and get to your accommodation on your own.

The Welcoming

We'll give you and all other students a proper welcome during the largest student event of the year, "The Welcoming". It's taking place on Friday 29 August between 13-16 at Campus Västerås.

Different parts of the University will also be there to answer questions and give information.

The Student Union

Mälardalen Student Union is an organisation that works closely with the University, to maintain the quality of the education and study-social environment from a student’s perspective. At MDU we are proud of our Student Union, and also of the various student associations, who make sure to take good care of all you international students.

Accommodation

The majority of our programmes and courses in English are given at Campus Västerås, and many of the teachers/professors/faculty members you will encounter during your studies at MDU, are based there. This combined with the active international student association makes most international students choose to stay in Västerås.

The housing agency we collaborate with is called Bostad Västerås. They don't own any apartment buildings of their own, but act as a link between the landlords and the tenant, making it easier for both. There are various kinds of housing types available, but the most common is small studio apartments.

In order for you to get a better understanding of how the process of getting accommodation through Bostad Västerås works, here's a short overview:

• Once admitted to MDU, please register through the website of Bostad Västerås External link, opens in new window..
  You will find the vacant student accommodations and can view details and see pics. When you find an option you like you can choose to apply for it by clicking "Register interest".
  
• Provided that you have submitted your admission letter you will get an offer on the apartment/room you chose.
  Accepting the offer is highly recommended. There will be an opportunity to change your accommodation after the first semester or get a refund if you for some reason can't come to start your studies.
  
• Accept and secure your offer through payment.
  Please read the refund policy in case you can't attend MDU, for whatever reason.
