Tuition fee
Students who are citizens of countries outside the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland, are required to pay a tuition fee for studies in Sweden.

Required information for paying the tuition fee
- By paying your tuition fee you confirm your admission.
- You can find your invoice, see the status of the payment and get a receipt in your Ladok account. Log in to Ladok for students. External link, opens in new window.
Newly admitted students, please choose to log in with universityadmissions.se details - Please use the reference number mentioned on the invoice when making your payment.
- The payment must be made in full and shall be paid in Swedish Kronor (SEK). This is for you to avoid currency exchange losses. We do not accept partial payments/smaller instalments.
- Any bank charges shall be at your/the sender’s account.
- The due date for the spring 2025 semester instalment of your programme tuition fee is 15 December for current students and 7 January for new students.
- If you are admitted to separate, free-standing courses starting later in the semester, please note that we must have received your payment at the latest one week prior to the start of the course.
Any refund of tuition fee must be requested. Please see further down.
Please note that Mälardalen University will only refund the tuition fee to the same bank account or credit/debit card from which payment originally came.
Due to bank procedures outside of the University's control the refund process to a bank account may take about 2 months.
The refund process for card payment is usually faster.
An administrative fee of 3 000 SEK will be charged to the student and will be deducted from the refunded tuition fee.

Tuition fee per semester for Bachelor’s and Master’s programme
The due date for the autumn instalment of the tuition fee, i.e. the semester fee, is 3 May. Please note that the payment must be made in full in order for you to be able to register for your courses.

Tuition fee for separate courses
Full-time studies are equivalent to 60 university credits per academic year. Full-time studies during one semester is equivalent to 30 credits, and full-time studies during one week to 1,5 credits.
The tuition fee must reach us no later than one week prior to the start of the course. Please note that it might take up to 5 bank days before the payment is received by the University.

Refund of tuition fee
Any refund of tuition fee must be requested.
Please note that Mälardalen University will only refund the tuition fee to the same bank account or credit/debit card from which payment originally came.

An administrative fee of 3 000 SEK will be charged to the student and will be deducted from the refunded tuition fee.
In accordance with Section 12 of the Ordinance on Application Fees and Tuition Fees, the University may refund the whole or a part of the tuition fee if a student has paid the tuition fee but is no longer liable to payment in accordance with Section 5 of the Ordinance on Application Fees and Tuition Fees. The refund shall relate to the part of the study programme for which the student is not liable to payment.
The University may also refund the whole or a part of the tuition fee if a student for other reasons is no longer liable to payment in accordance with Section 4 of the Admission Regulations for Mälardalen University. A refund should in that case be made at the latest before the current academic year is finished.
In cases where a student who is required to pay tuition fees has paid for the semester for which deferment has been granted, no refund is normally made but the fee is valid for the semester immediately following the deferment period. A person wishing to commence studies after the period of deferment shall abide by the instructions in the deferment decision, i.e. re-register for the course of study programme for which deferral was granted, and enclose a copy of the deferment decision.
In cases where a student who is required to pay a tuition fee has paid for the semester for which leave has been granted, no refund is normally made but the fee is valid for the semester immediately after the leave of studies.
