About this course

Did you know that so called spectral imaging cameras can detect details or distinguish materials in a way that the human eye or ordinary cameras cannot? Spectral imaging techniques are revolutionizing the way we look at and understand the world. Spectral images from satellites, aircraft, drones, or laboratory and portable cameras are widely used in various areas - from astronomy, agriculture, and mineralogy to medical research, food science, and materials analysis. Their capacities are extensive, and the full potential of this technology has not yet been reached.

Are you interested in learning more about the untapped potential of spectral imaging applied to environmental systems? If so, join this course and learn how spectral imaging can be used for control and optimization of environmental technology and come up with novel application ideas that can benefit society.

What you will learn

  • Describe essential principles of state-of-the-art spectral imaging methods, including image processing algorithms.
  • Analyze and interpret spatial data obtained by spectral imaging methods for identification, localization, and characterization of chemical and biochemical compounds.
  • Assess spectral imaging methods applied in different sectors and propose and evaluate potential future applications.

Entry requirements

120 credits including 90 credits in engineering and/or natural science, of which 15 credits on advanced level, and 7.5 credits mathematics. In addition, English course B/English course 6 is required.
