Course objective

The course aims to provide an understanding of relevant theories in Innovation and Design as well as an understanding of how to describe and analyze a practical project in harmony with these. One focus is on collaboration and how joint knowledge development between different actors in a research project, in collaboration, can be carried out.

Course content

The course provides an overall understanding of the subject of innovation and design, in theory and practice. It deals with the importance of conducting research in collaboration, and research on collaboration. The course deals with interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and cross-disciplinary research. The doctoral student will also gain knowledge about practical practice in innovation and design.

Intented learning outcomes

  1. Describe and discuss their own doctoral project in relation to Innovation and Design
  2. Describe and make assessments of different types of interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary/cross-disciplinary research
  3. Discuss central theories in Innovation and Design

The intended qualitative targets in relation to the Higher Education Ordinance, appendix 2.

Knowledge and understanding

For the Degree of Doctor, the doctoral student shall demonstrate:

  • A1: broad knowledge and systematic understanding of the research field as well as advanced and up-to-date specialised knowledge in a limited area of this field, and

Competence and skills

For the Degree of Doctor, the doctoral student shall demonstrate

  • B5: the ability to identify the need for further knowledge

Judgement and approach

For a Degree of Doctor the doctoral student shall demonstrate

  • C1: intellectual autonomy and disciplinary rectitude as well as the ability to make assessments of research ethics, and
  • C2: specialised insight into the possibilities and limitations of research, its role in society and the responsibility of the individual for how it is used.

Teaching formats

Lectures and literature seminars.

Examination

INL1. Write a written report that addresses all the intended learning outcomes of the course (1, 2 and 3), 3.5 credits.

SEM1. Be able to discuss and demonstrate a deeper understanding of their own doctoral project in Innovation and Design and apply theories for the subject, 1.5 credits. Examines intended learning outcomes 1 and 3

Grade

Examinations included in the course are assessed according to a two-grade scale, fail or pass.

Grades are to be decided by a teacher specially appointed by the university.

A person who has not passed the regular examination shall be given the opportunity to retake the test.

Requirements

To participate in the course and the examinations included in the course, the applicant must be admitted to doctoral studies.
