The objective of the course is for students to acquire enhanced skills in Academic English with regard to written and spoken production as well as reading and listening comprehension. It is primarily intended for students who otherwise study subjects other than English. The course offers an overview of basic grammatical rules and an introduction to other aspects of academic communication in English, with a focus on dictionary use and academic vocabulary, writing rules, text structure, presentation techniques, and source use.

    Participation in scheduled teaching activities is mandatory regardless of whether the course is offered on campus or as a distance course. When it is offered as a distance course, it comprises no scheduled teaching on campus, but about ten mandatory web-based seminar, as well as one exam-hall examination that needs to be taken on the MDU campus. Participation in the course as a distance course presupposes a good internet connection, a web camera and suitable sound conditions (microphone, etc.).
