Objectives
The course broadens the perspective on product- and production development by contributing to enhanced knowledge about sustainability aspects related to industrial activities.
Learning outcomes
After completed the course, the student shall be able to:
- Describe how a company can consider sustainability aspects related to industrial business activities
- Describe methods and tools that can be used to consider sustainability aspects related to industrial business activities related to product- and production development
- Describe and reflect about the sustainability and life cycle concepts
- Analyse sustainability aspects relate to activities that are carried out in a supply chain
- Analyse and critically evaluate improvement ideas for products and production systems based on sustainability aspects.
- Based on a critical perspective analyses scientific literature that focuses on sustainability aspects related to product- and production development
- Communicate and present conclusions both in written and orally
- Peer review other students' work
Course content
The course focuses on aspects of sustainability impact, and how it can be handled in industrial operations, with a particular focus on industrial product- and production development processes.
The course includes the following elements:
- The concepts of sustainability and life cycle
- Sustainable supply chains
- Consideration of sustainability aspects within product development
- Consideration of sustainability aspects within production development
Specific requirements
30 credits of completed courses in Product and Process Development of which 22,5 hp credits are on level G2F. In addition, Swedish course 3 or Swedish level 3 and English course 6 or English level 2 are required. For courses given entirely in English exemption is made from the requirement in Swedish course 3 or Swedish level 3.
Examination
Seminar (SEM1), seminar wherein the topic of the course is discussed, 3 credits, examines the learning outcomes 1-4 and 6, marks Fail (U) or Pass (G)
Project (PRO1), a project assignment, 4,5 credits, (examines the learning outcomes 4-8, marks Fail (U), 3, 4 or 5
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding disability study support, can request adaptions for the examination. It is the examiner who takes decisions on any adaptions, based on the certificate and other conditions.
