Objectives
The purpose of the course is for students to become familiar with English literature and literature analysis and the basic conventions for academic writing in a literary context.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, students are expected to:
- Conduct and discuss basic literary analyses using good written and spoken English
- define and use relevant terminology and methods for basic literary analyses in good written and spoken English
- apply basic conventions for academic writing in a literary context
Course content
- Contemporary literature in various genres from different English-speaking countries
- Introduction to literary analysis and its terminology
- Basic academic writing in a literary context
Requirements
Basic eligibility and English 6 Or: English level 2
Examination
OBN1, compulsory attendance, 1 credit, attendance at scheduled activities concerning learning outcomes 1-2, grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).
INL1, assignment, 3.5 credits, concerning learning outcomes 1-3, grades Fail (U), Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG).
TEN1, written examination, 3 credits, concerning learning outcomes 1-3, grades Fail (U), Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG).
For Pass with distinction (VG) on the course as a whole, the student must have earned that grade for INL1 and TEN1.
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding disability study support, can request adaptions for the examination. It is the examiner who takes decisions on any adaptions, based on the certificate and other conditions.
