Objectives
This course aims offers students the possibility to gain professional experience and apply the expertise that they have acquired through their studies to tackle complex societal challenges in practice.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding
- Provide an in-depth account of how the organization hosting the internship is affected by, and acts to address, contemporary societal challenges.
- Provide an in-depth account of how the organization hosting the internship contributes to societal sustainability.
Skills and abilities - Demonstrate an advanced ability to apply theoretical knowledge from political science in practice within an organization, as well as the ability to critically reflect on this process.
Judgement and approach: - Demonstrate the ability to critically reflect on the organization hosting the internship from the perspective of relevant political science theories and concepts.
Course content
The studies are conducted in the form of an internship within an organization relevant to political science studies, for example within the public sector, civil society or international organizations. By participating in the organization’s activities, the student is given the opportunity to apply the knowledge acquired during the programme in a practical setting.
During the internship the student writes a written report. The report together with an oral presentation of the internship period, constitutes the assessment of the internship work.
Specific requirements
A completed Bachelor’s degree from an institution of higher education of three years or more, equivalent to at least 180 credits and with a major in the field of political science or an equivalent academic field. In addition Swedish course 3 or Swedish level 3 and English course 6 or English level 2 are required. For courses given entirely in English exemption is made from the requirement in Swedish course 3 or Swedish level 3.
Examination
PRA1, Practice, 25 credit, grade: Pass (G) or Fail (U). Learning outcome: 1-2
SEM1, Seminar, 2 credit, grade: Pass (G) or Fail (U). Learning outcome: 3
INL1, Written assignment, 3 credit, grade: Pass with distinction (VG), Pass (G), Failed (U). Learning outcome: 4
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding disability study support, can request adaptions for the examination. It is the examiner who takes decisions on any adaptions, based on the certificate and other conditions.
