Objectives

This course aims to contribute in-depth knowledge and understanding about strategy of multinational corporations (MNCs) and other international firms, by practicing the art and science of strategic thinking in an increasingly complex and competitive arena. During this course, students will learn the processes of global strategy analysis, including the formulation and execution of global strategy analysis. Students will also learn to develop their own strategies for managing current global business challenges.

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Knowledge and understanding

  1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of key literature on global strategy formulation and execution.

    Skills and abilities
  2. Show the ability to gather and analyze relevant information using strategy frameworks; identify, analyze, and respond to strategic opportunities, taking risks, tradeoffs and contingencies under consideration.

    Evaluation ability and approach
  3. Demonstrate oral and written communication skills as they pertain to the analysis, formulation and implementation of strategic thinking in a global world by producing professional in-class presentations, reports, and deliverables.

Course content

The course themes cover developing sustained competitive advantage through global integration, local adaptation, disruptive technologies, strategic implications of knowledge management and innovation, and sustainability.

Specific requirements

A completed Bachelor's degree from an institution of higher education of three years or more, equivalent to at least 180 credits and with a major in the field of Business Administration.

In addition, English course 6 or English level 2 or A TOEFL test result, with a minimum score 575 with a TWE score of at least 4.5 (PBT) or 90 with a TWE score of at least 20 (iBT), or an IELTS test result with an overall band score of at least 6.5 and no band score below 5.5, or equivalent, is required.

Examination

Written exam (TEN1) 3,5 hp, grades Excellent (A), Very good (B), Good (C), Satisfactory (D), Sufficient (E), Insufficient (F)-Connected to the Learning Outcomes 1 och 2.

Assignment (INL1) 1,5 hp, grades Excellent (A), Very good (B), Good (C), Satisfactory (D), Sufficient (E), Insufficient, complementary work possible (Fx), Insufficient (F). Connected to the Learning Outcome 1.

Project (PRO1) 2,5 hp, grades Excellent (A), Very good (B), Good (C), Satisfactory (D), Sufficient (E), Insufficient, complementary work possible (Fx), Insufficient (F). Connected to the Learning Outcomes 1, 2 och 3.

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding disability study support, can request adaptions for the examination. It is the examiner who takes decisions on any adaptions, based on the certificate and other conditions.
