Objectives
The course offers students from the study program for teachers in pre-school class and compulsory school years 1-3, as well as qualified teachers for those school years, the opportunity to become qualified for teaching English in school years 4-6 as well.
In terms of contents, the course aims to give students the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of English and English language didactics, as well as to develop their creative and communicative skills, including basic academic communication. Students will also be given the opportunity to acquire knowledge of English-language children's literature, literature didactics, aesthetic learning processes, intercultural ability, as well as assessment in language learning contexts.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, students are expected to be able to
- communicate freely and correctly in English, while adapting to the situation and recipients
- apply techniques and strategies for academic communication
- develop and apply strategies to create a pleasurable and interactive language environment in the classroom
- identify teaching strategies for sustainable development
- make conscious choices of children's literature and other cultural expressions based on didactic theories of language teaching for younger learners
- use children's literature, other cultural expressions and diverse types of media to support pupils' language development, as well as develop their creativity and intercultural ability
- plan and evaluate comprehensive and coherent learning activities in English with support in current policy documents and current subject didactic research
- identify and evaluate different ways of assessing and documenting pupils' learning and development in English

- English-language children's literature, including jingles and rhymes, songs, drama, images, film and other cultural expressions in English
- Applied language didactics, including literature didactics, intercultural ability and aesthetic learning processes

Specific requirements
A a minimum of 60 credits from the study program for teachers in pre-school class and compulsory school years 1-3, including at least 15 credits of English.

OBN1, Compulsory attendance, 0.5 credit, attendance at scheduled teaching and learning activities in literature and literature didactics, concerning learning outcomes 3-6, grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).
INL1, Assignment, 2 credits, literature and literature didactics, concerning learning outcomes 1-6, grades Fail (U), Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG).
SEM1, Seminar, 2 credits, literature and literature didactics, concerning learning outcomes 1, 2, 5 and 6, grades Fail (U), Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG).

For a Pass with distinction (VG) on the course as a whole, the student must have earned that grade for at least 10 credits.
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding disability study support, can request adaptions for the examination. It is the examiner who takes decisions on any adaptions, based on the certificate and other conditions.
