Objectives
The objective of the course is to provide the student with the opportunity to acquire formal competence, as well as to develop the student's
knowledge about and proficiency in supervision in third-cycle studies.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student is expected to be able to
- account for overall structures and degree objectives regarding supervision within third-cycle studies
- apply laws, regulations and ethical considerations within third-cycle studies
- plan third-cycle supervision in accordance with guidelines and work processes at MDU
- account for third-cycle studies education in international and co-producing research environments
- reflect and discuss about individuals and situations in supervision relationships within third-cycle studies
- reflect and discuss about communication as support for learning in third-cycle studies

- Ethical rules, guidelines and considerations
- Planning and assessing third-cycle studies and progression using the individual study plan and other tools
- Supervision in international and co-producing environments
- The supervisory relationship

Degree of Doctor.
Examination
OVN1, Exercise, o.5 credit, active participation in exercises concerning learning outcomes 1, 3 and 6, grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).
SEM1, Seminar, 1.5 credits, active participation in seminars concerning learning outcomes 1-6, grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).
INL1, Written assignment, 2.5 credits, written assignment concerning learning outcomes 1-6, grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding disability study support, can request adaptions for the examination. It is the examiner who takes decisions on any adaptions, based on the certificate and other conditions.
