Objectives
The course should give students basic knowledge about applied control theory. The knowledge should be useful in proceeding courses where the students should be able to use their knowledge in order to perform a minor project where a control system is one part.
Learning outcomes
After completed the course the student shall be able to:
- understand the concept of feedback and closed loop control,
- explain the working principle of a PID controller and also
- implement basic control strategies in Matlab/Simulink as well as in Labview.
Course content
Closed loop strategy versus open loop, positive and negative feedback, proportional derivative and integral actions, basic principle of modeling and simulation, basic description of the Matlab/Simulink simulation environment, examples of controls in physical systems, introduction to Labview.
Specific requirements
Basics in Electronics 7,5 credits and Programming 7,5 credits or equivalent.
Examination
Project (PRO1), An assignment that is presented with a report and a demonstration of the project, 2,5 credits, (examines the learning outcomes 1-3), marks Fail (U) or Pass (G)
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding disability study support, can request adaptions for the examination. It is the examiner who takes decisions on any adaptions, based on the certificate and other conditions.
