Objectives
The purpose of the course is to will gain knowledge about the development of industrial production systems for the manufacturing industry. In addition, the course will provide basic insights into and an understanding for the need to focus on the development process as one way to achieve an effective and efficient production system - how this is described in theory as well as it is implemented in an industrial context.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student shall be able to:
- describe the production development process and various tools and methods used in the development of production systems
- describe and analyse how various production development activities and decisions affect the possibility of achieving highly performing production systems
- explain how production system development is affected by and conducted in a global context
- demonstrate understanding for how technology can be used and developed to improve the performance of production systems
- carry out and relate a practical work to theories of production development
- individually and in groups carry out and present project and seminar assignments, both in writing and orally and to critically and constructively provide feedback on such presentations
Course content
The course covers the activities that are carried out and decisions made during the development of the production system that affects the possibilities to achieve production systems with high performance. The course also addresses methods and approaches which can be used to make production development working in a global context and in a cost-effective way.
- Development of production system: system and process perspective, development processes, methods and approaches for system development, evaluation, etc.
- Realization of production systems: planning and carrying out of implementation, hand-over of the production system to operations, follow up and evaluation of changes etc.
- Organisation, actors and roles connected to production system development
- Flexible production systems
- The use and development of technology for production system development
- Global production development
- Integrated product and production development
Specific requirements
22.5 credits within production including the course Lean Production 7.5 credits. In addition, Swedish course 3 or Swedish level 3 and English course 6 or English level 2 are required. For courses given entirely in English exemption is made from the requirement in Swedish course 3 or Swedish level 3.
Examination
SEM1, Seminar, seminar series, 2,5 credits, examines the learning outcomes 1-4 and 6, marks Fail (U) or Pass (G)
