Objectives
The aim of the course is for students to deepen their communicative competence in spoken and written academic English.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, students are expected to:
- analyse and produce diverse types of academic texts in English both spoken and written
- apply information retrieval and source management strategies

Specific requirements
15 credits from English 1 or the equivalent.
Examination
OBN1, compulsory attendance, 1 credit, attendance at scheduled activities, concerning learning outcomes 1-2, grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).
OVN1, exercise, 1 credit, internet based tests, concerning learning outcomes 1-2, grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).
SEM1, seminar, 1 credit, oral presentation, concerning learning outcomes 1-2, grades Fail (U), Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG).
INL1, assignment, 2.5 credits, concerning learning outcomes 1-2, grades Fail (U), Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG).
TEN1, written examination, 2 credits, concerning learning outcomes 1-2, grades Fail (U), Pass (G) or Pass with distinction (VG).
For a passing grade on the course, assignments need to be completed in correct, idiomatic and stylistically appropriate English.
For Pass with distinction (VG) on the course as a whole, the student must have earned that grade for INL1 and TEN1.
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding disability study support, can request adaptions for the examination. It is the examiner who takes decisions on any adaptions, based on the certificate and other conditions.
