Course literature is preliminary up to 8 weeks before course start. Course literature can be valid over several semesters.

Objectives

The objective of the course is for students to acquire further in-depth knowledge of how theories in behavioural medicine can be applied for development of a field of work in physiotherapy.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student shall be able to:

  1. systematically search for relevant studies concerning applications of theories and models in behavioural medicine
  2. critically review studies concerning applications of theories and models in behavioural medicine for a field of work in physiotherapy
  3. distinguish how theories and models in behavioural medicine can be applied for the chosen field of work
  4. analyse and evaluate how the application of theories and models in behavioural medicine can be applied for a field of work in physiotherapy

Course content

Central theories and models in behavioural medicine
Theoretical and conceptual framework as a base for a scientific study
Systematic literature search
Overview of tools for review and critical analysis of applied theory or model in a scientific study
Critical review, analysis and compilation of studies, which could constitute a theoretical framework for a planned degree project or alternatively a clinical development project

Specific requirements

A Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy. Behavioural Medicine in Physiotherapy, 7,5 credits, Qualitative Research Methods I, 7.5 credits and Quantitative Research Methods I, 7.5 credits or the equivalent. In addition Swedish B/Swedish 3 and English B/English 6 are required. For courses given entirely in English exemption is made from the requirement for Swedish B/Swedish 3.

Examination

HEM1, Take-home examination, 1.5 credits, grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).
INL1, Individual written assignment, 6 credits, grades Fail (U), Pass (G) or Pass with Distinction (VG).

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding disability study support, can request adaptions for the examination. It is the examiner who takes decisions on any adaptions, based on the certificate and other conditions.
