Course literature is preliminary up to 8 weeks before course start. Course literature can be valid over several semesters.
Objectives
The purpose of the course is to give the participants the opportunity to acquire basic skills in mainly oral communication in English, with a particular focus on communication in higher education and/or research.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, participants are expected to be able to:
- provide evidence of skills in practical grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and other relevant aspects of oral communication in English
- provide evidence of increased skills in presenting subjects related to the participants´ own work assignments in reasonably formal English
Course content
- casual as well as more formal oral communication in English
- presentation skills, with a focus on English usage

Employment at Mälardalen University.
Examination
SEM1, Seminar, 2 credits. Active participation in the timetabled seminars concerning learning outcomes 1 and 2, grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding disability study support, can request adaptions for the examination. It is the examiner who takes decisions on any adaptions, based on the certificate and other conditions.
