Objectives
The objective of the course is for the student to acquire further in-depth knowledge of how interventions at the local level can be developed and implemented to promote sustainable healthy living habits and to prevent ill-health and disease.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, students shall be able to:
- explain and apply definitions and concepts for sustainable living habits and health-promoting work.
- explain and apply definitions and concepts for unsustainable living habits and preventive public health work.
- account for and motivate how interventions can be developed, implemented and evaluated
- suggest how evidence-based interventions can be carried out at the local level
- assess and reflect on how local interventions are carried out in relation to scientific theories, models and concepts related to sustainable living habits and health-promoting work
Course content
Sustainable living habits and health-promoting work: definitions, basic concepts and theories
Preventive public health work to counteract unsustainable living habits: definitions and concepts
Theories and models related to health-promoting work at the local level
Development and implementation of interventions to promote health at the local level
Evidence-based preventive efforts at the local level
Evaluation of interventions to promote health at the local level
Current research in prevention and health promotion
Specific requirements
30 credits of Master's courses in Public Health Sciences, of which 7.5 credits are in Promoting Sustainable Living Habits and 7.5 credits in Methods for Studying Health, or the equivalent. In addition Sv B/Sv 3 and En B/En 6 are required. For courses given in English, exemption is made from Sv B/Sv 3.
Examination
INL1, Written assignment, 4.5 credits, relating to learning outcomes 3-4, grades Fail (U), Pass (G) and Pass with Distinction (VG).
SEM1, Seminar, 1.5 credits, relating to learning outcome 1, grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).
SEM2, Seminar, 1.5 credits, relating to learning outcome 2, grades Fail (U) or Pass (G).
For a VG on the course as a whole, a VG on INL1 and a G on SEM1 and SEM2 are required.
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding disability study support, can request adaptions for the examination. It is the examiner who takes decisions on any adaptions, based on the certificate and other conditions.
