Objectives

To provide knowledge about

  • different companies´ business activities from the perspective of Organizational Theory
  • essential concepts within Organizational Theory such as: structure, design, culture, change, the environment and its effects on strategy and structure, technology, organizational life cycle processes, decisions, change processes etc.
  • general principles in case writing and how case works in Business Administration can be structured

Learning outcomes

To provide ability for

  • transforming knowledge into sucessful business transactions by understanding how organizational issues influence the activities of companies and other organizations
  • integrating and using basic organizational theories and models in solving organizational problems in companies and other organizations
  • taking strategic organizational decisions in companies and other organizations
  • analyzing different organizational problems from a case

Course content

The course deals with and gives an overview of the composition of the organization. There is particular focus on the problems and strategies for managing the organization internally and externally and through change periods. The course will give practical examples as well as adopting a scientific approach to the study of organizations.

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding disability study support, can request adaptions for the examination. It is the examiner who takes decisions on any adaptions, based on the certificate and other conditions.

Examinations:
The individual written examination and the group work must both be done in the English language.

Marks:
Swedish and ECTS-marks are given on the result for the whole course. The Swedish marks are Pass with Distinction (Väl godkänd) or Pass (Godkänd) or Fail (Underkänd) and the ECTS-marks are A or B (= Pass with Distinction) or C or D or E (= Pass) or F (= Fail).
