Objectives
The objective of the course is to give the student knowledge about industrial dynamics in relation to environmental engineering. This involves mechanisms that underlie industrial transformation and technical change, and their implications on sustainable development.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student shall be able to:
- Explain basic concepts from the field of industrial dynamics in relation to environmental engineering
- Explain and critically discuss the mechanisms that underlie industrial transformation and technical change and their implications for sustainable development
- Evaluate and apply theoretical concepts and current research methods from the field of industrial dynamics for managing change and innovation processes aiming at sustainable development.
Course content
The theoretical base of the course derives from the areas of industrial dynamics and socio-technical systems theory with strong links to evolutionary economics and institutional economics. Several cases of industrial transformation are presented with a mixture of contemporary cases and historical examples. Methods applied to analyze industrial dynamics in the context of environmental protection and sustainability are presented.
Specific requirements
120 credits of which 90 credits engineering and/or natural science. In addition, Swedish course 3 or Swedish level 3 and English course 6 or English level 2 are required. For courses given entirely in English exemption is made from the requirement in Swedish course 3 or Swedish level 3.
Examination
Assignment (INL1) 1 credit, grade: (P) Pass or (F) Fail. Learning outcomes: 1 and 2.
Project (PRO1) 1.5 credits, grades Excellent (A), Very good (B), Good (C), Satisfactory (D), Sufficient (E), Insufficient, complementary work possible (Fx), Insufficient (F). Learning outcomes: 1 - 3.
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding disability study support, can request adaptions for the examination. It is the examiner who takes decisions on any adaptions, based on the certificate and other conditions.
