Objectives
The aim of the course is to provide knowledge of how to improve industrial processes that involve complex changes through the use of simulation.
The objective of this course is to develop understanding and competence in the use of simulation in virtual production.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student shall be able to:
- Apply theoretical findings and reflect on the use of simulation for improving a real industrial production process
- Build a simulation model of a production system using a systems perspective and applying the principles of data collection and analysis
- Analyze different scenarios for the improvement of a production process with the use of a simulation model and document the results
Course content
- The process of building a simulation model in simulation software
- Simulation of an industrial production system within the manufacturing industry, analysis of improvement scenarios and communication of the results
Specific requirements
75 credits in mechanical engineering, production engineering, product and process development, computer engineering and/or computer science or equivalent or 40 credits in engineering/technology and at least 2 years' experience in full-time employment in a relevant area within industry. In addition, Swedish course 3 or Swedish level 3 and English course 6 or English level 2 are required. For courses given entirely in English exemption is made from the requirement in Swedish course 3 or Swedish level 3.
Examination
Assignment (INL1), 0.5 credits, examines learning outcomes 1 - 3, marks Fail (U) or Pass (G)
Project (PRO1), 2 credits, examines learning outcomes 1 - 3, marks Fail (U) or Pass (G)
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding disability study support, can request adaptions for the examination. It is the examiner who takes decisions on any adaptions, based on the certificate and other conditions.
Grade
