Objectives
The objective of the course is to provide knowledge about challenges, barriers and opportunities in the development of sustainable cities and infrastructures with special consideration to planning, management, technology, policies and key sustainability metrics.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student shall be able to:
- Analyse the current challenges, barriers, and opportunities to sustainable cities and infrastructures
- Analyse the current planning and management strategies, policies, and technologies for sustainable cities and infrastructures
- Evaluate current sustainable cities and infrastructures projects
- Evaluate and discuss current sustainability metrics based on the knowledge acquired during the course
- Develop skills for continued learning and development about sustainable cities and infrastructures as the field evolves
Course content
The course deals with the concept of sustainable development applied to cities and infrastructures with special focus on water, energy and food aspects. The planning and management of sustainable cities and infrastructures will be also addressed in the course. Case studies of sustainable cities, communities and infrastructure will be investigated during the course.
Specific requirements
120 credits of which 90 credits in engineering and/or natural science and 7.5 credits in mathematics. In addition Swedish course 3 or Swedish level 3 and English course 6 or English level 2 are required. For courses given entirely in English exemption is made from the requirement in Swedish course 3 or Swedish level 3.
Examination
HEM2, Take-home examination, 3 credits, grade: Pass (G), Fail (U). Learning outcomes: 1-4.
INL1, Assignment, 3 credits, grades Excellent (A), Very good (B), Good (C), Satisfactory (D), Sufficient (E), Insufficient, complementary work possible (Fx), Insufficient (F). Learning outcomes: 2, 3.
PRO1, Project report, 1.5 credits. grades: Excellent (A), Very good (B), Good (C), Satisfactory (D), Sufficient (E), Insufficient, complementary work possible (Fx), Insufficient (F). Learning outcomes: 4, 5.
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding disability study support, can request adaptions for the examination. It is the examiner who takes decisions on any adaptions, based on the certificate and other conditions.
