Objectives
The purpose of the course is to practically apply production improvement within the theme "Lean and Green". The course provides applications of theories and models as well as insight into how to plan, implement and report on project work. In the project, the student is expected to use and integrate acquired knowledge, experience and skills and thereby further deepen their understanding of industrial development.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student should be able to:
- Plan and carry out project work in a group with the support of relevant methods, within the framework specified for the course, and demonstrate the ability to take responsibility for and reflect on the work process.
- Formulate and motivate the project's purpose, problem statement and goals, and be able to discuss possible continuations of the development work.
- Analyze and apply basic Lean philosophy and tools for industrial development by generating solutions, evaluating alternatives, and assessing the effects of improvements.
- Demonstrate a critical approach to improvements by identifying early risks and opportunities and reflecting on the project's progress in relation to the goal.
- Identify and analyze problems and describe the current level of knowledge ("State-of-the-art" and "State-of-practice") within the project area and based on this evaluate selected tools and solutions.
- Draw relevant conclusions and give recommendations for continued work based on the project's results and reflections.
- Document the different parts of the project in a structured and content-correct report, which includes reflection on the conclusions and the project's implementation.
- Present the project's purpose, implementation and results orally, both individually and in groups, with a focus on clarity and analytical ability.
Course content
The course consists of planning, implementing and reporting a project in the field of production improvement within the theme of Green and Lean. The area and scope of the project work are presented by the course responsible at the start of the course. The project is carried out within the university in a group. The problem that forms the basis of the work must be reported and its relevance and proposed solutions must be discussed and motivated. The project must address both relevant basic theory as well as previous research and proven experience, i.e. there must be a connection to "State-of-the-art" and "State-of-practice". The focus of the project should be on Lean philosophy and tools.
Specific requirements
Completed courses of 20 credits within industrial system, or equivalent.
Examination
PRO1, Project work, 5 credits, implementation and written report, examines learning outcomes 1 - 7, marks Fail (U), 3, 4 or 5
SEM1, Seminar, 1 credit, examines learning outcomes 3 - 5, marks Fail (U) or Pass (G)
PRO2, Project work, 1 credit, oral presentation of completed project work in a group, examines learning outcome 8, marks Fail (U) or Pass (G)
MUN1, Oral individual examination, on completed project, 3 credits, examines learning outcomes 1 - 8, marks Fail (U), 3, 4 or 5
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding disability study support, can request adaptions for the examination. It is the examiner who takes decisions on any adaptions, based on the certificate and other conditions.
