Literature lists

Course literature is preliminary up to 8 weeks before course start. Course literature can be valid over several semesters.

Objectives

The course provides basic theoretical and practical knowledge to install, use and administer Linux-based systems as well as knowledge of script development.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student shall be able to:

  1. install, configure and manage Linux-systems,
  2. explain the file system structure and the underlying security model,
  3. account for and manage the most common commands in a Linux system,
  4. write simpler programs in command languages (scripts) and
  5. give examples of different techniques used to work with remote computers.

Course content

Working in Linux, install Linux, managing software packages, system administration, operating system structure, file management, processes, window management, command shell and scripting.

Examination

Laboratory work (LAB1), 4 credits, examines the learning objectives 1-5, marks Fail (U) or Pass (G).

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding disability study support, can request adaptions for the examination. It is the examiner who takes decisions on any adaptions, based on the certificate and other conditions.
